South Africa survive Samoan scare
AUCKLAND, 30 Sept. - Samoa captain Mahonri Schwalger was left to rue his team's wasted opportunities as they fell 13-5 to South Africa in a physical encounter at North Harbour Stadium on Friday. The Samoans enjoyed long periods of possession in the second half but were unable to make it count on the scoreboard.

Our Riesling 2009 has just brought home the TROPHY from the First XV Wine Competition! This is an international event held here in Nelson taking the rivalry off the rugby field and into the winery. New Zealand, Italy and the USA put their best Aromatics foreward to be judged by an international panel. The best fifteen (First XV) Pinot Gris, Rieslings and Gewurztraminers were selected and Trophy winners announced at a spectacular Degustation Dinner at Woollaston Estates.

Tears were shed and happy times remembered during a special memorial service to remember the sea creatures who lost their lives when Mapua's Touch the Sea Aquarium was burnt to the ground. More than 350 people – half of whom were children – attended the memorial which took place between the charred site and the Mapua wharf yesterday afternoon.

Georgia savour record night against Romania
PALMERSTON NORTH, 28 Sept. - Georgia enjoyed a record evening at Arena Manawatu on Wednesday as they saw off Romania 25-9 in their Pool B match. Mamuka Gorgodze became his country’s leading try-scorer outright while the Lelos kicked six penalties in a World Cup match for the first time - and the most by any team at this tournament.
