Milestone Kiwi Chick
Milestone kiwi chick number 1,000 has been released back to the wild of its native habitat in the Waimarino Forest near Ohakune. Born on 24SEP11, the chick was the 1,000th hatched at Kiwi Encounter at Rainbow Springs Kiwi Wildlife Park in Rotorua as part of the BNZ Save the Kiwi Trust programme.

It's official -- October WAS cold
Last month was the coldest October for 64 years throughout much of New Zealand, including Wanganui. Figures released from the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research [NIWA] show that temperatures in the lower North Island were on average 2 degrees colder than normal.
